Canadian Hooligans
Canadian jay is what the forest ranger called this bird as it perched above the informal audience outside the visitor's center of the Hoh Rainforest. "It's an example of what happens when people feed wildlife. Sometimes they swoop right down and snatch the sandwich right out of your hand!"
This particular jay did not do that, or even come close to that kind of behavior. I think he was wrongly accused and simply curious to see if he could find the crumbs of careless snackers. Either way, I zoomed in with my Nikon 200-400 lens and captured a couple of cute pictures of it.
Update: I paused in my writing of this post and have since been to the Sol Duc where we saw some very aggressive Canadian Jays dive-bombing a man who was eating a granola bar. The rascals were not concerned about getting too close. If I had quick reflexes, I could have grabbed one out of the air as we walked by the person being targeted by these hooligans. Perhaps they were jays from the wrong side of town. They're still though.
